MAIN TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MAIN TASK

The Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) was established in 2007 to enhance the role of UPM as a Research University.

MISSION

The Mission of the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) is to assist the university to be a centre of learning and research that contributes to human progress and the discovery of knowledge through interaction with industry and community.

The role of the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) is to enhance and coordinate joint UPM-Industry-Community endeavours in order to strengthen the multiple functional responsibilities of teaching and learning, research and development of the university, keeping faith with our motto, “With Knowledge We Serve” and meeting the current needs of the country and contributing towards nation building.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) are to:

  • Implement strategic partnerships with Industry and the community.
  • Ensure the transfer of knowledge and technology through the conduit of the Industry   and Community Network, with UPM experts carrying out projects and running programmes outside the University.
  • Monitor development activities in line with the strategic planning and direction of the   University and the country's current needs.
  • Monitor the progress and achievements of industry and community relations projects in terms of effect and positive impact.
  • Ensure that the industry and community relations activities generate income for the university by way of grants and beneficial collaborative university-industry-community endeavours.
  • Enhance communication and dissemination of information internally and externally for the smooth and effective implementation of the university’s industry and community relations.

The comprehensive range of activities organized to meet the above-mentioned responsibilities is planned and executed by the University Community Transformation Centre (UCTC) and the Centre of Industry Relations and Network (CiRNeT), both of which are key components of the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations).

While these industry and community relations activities have been on a national basis so far, steps have already been taken to go beyond national borders and reach out to the international community in the university’s continuing efforts to go global in its university-industry-community engagement efforts.

Many efforts have been made in this direction and we are confident they will bear fruit and UPM will soon be able to globally engage industry and communities and play a modest but significant role in contributing to world peace, harmony and human well-being.
